About My Small Outrage

Sarah pointed out that i was not coherent enough in my argumentation.
Here are my thoughts more structured and hopefully more clear.

Please see this as reflection on our work and what we can work on together!

#1 (The big one) About concept and why we are doing this

I think that this project had lost a bit of its focus in terms of what we want the end product to be.

My understanding was that we wanted a space that with intelligence reacted to its inhabitants for a pre defined inhabitant oriented reason. - Meaning; an architectural space that changes its spatial configuration to suit a particular need, in a way like retractable walls, shower curtains and automated sliding doors do. -I hope this is still what we are aiming for

We should not forget that so many interactive spaces have been built for the sake of showing interaction, it has been done, probably better than we could do it, due to short time frame, money, experience and so on.

Our aim is not just to build something that is interactive- it is to be architecturally innovative using interactive technology.
Our future is in innovation of ideas not inventing technology or building systems . We need to master many professions but our underling task as architects is to fulfill briefs though design innovation. This should not be forgotten.

#2 About trials and errors
As Joanne made clear, we have to chose a method of construction, if it fails just try and try again. But not change system all together, problems well be confronted in every choice of construction method. - We need to fid ways to solve the issues at hand. Make a bunch of tests finding the exact right way of making things but never at a point like this start discussing new systems. If we are not sure we speak with our teachers, UTS is filled with educated professionals that we can consult - and we can make things work by solving the issues together. This joins with #3 so might as well jump to that.

#3 About communication
If we try something and it fails it has to be posted, photos of white boards are really good! but a chunk of text that goes with each image would make it clearer. - Like today i spoke with Phil and Cathy about the problems they experienced trying to cut the tooth pattern out of the fabric, that is too hard to get it pristine and match up. Excellent example of an issue that should be posted, maybe someone has a simple idea of how to find a way of using more tolerance and trimming it as needed or something else. But its really important that we all write a couple of words of about what issues were, (doesn't really need to be a fancy diagram or an essay).

But again these are my thoughts.. And I think we have come too long of a travel to just say that it is an "interactive installation", especially when it can be an architecturally designed space.
